Feeling the greatness, awe and majesty of Allah is the highest level of fear
Ibn Al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy upon him) said: “The awe of the Divine Majesty is the most distinguished level of fear.”
and our Lord (exalted be He) possesses such great Majesty that only those whose hearts are overwhelmed by it can experience
Incomparable majesty
Those who stand submissively between His hands experience it clearly
Here’s Jibril (Gabriel), the most powerful angel with his huge size that if he spreads open one of his wings, it would fill the whole horizon
Filling the horizon meaning it would cover the sun
and he has six hundred wings
and even so, look at what the Prophet (peace be upon him) said about him
a great thing happened to him when he stood between the Hands of Allah
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “On the night on which I was taken on the Night Journey, I passed by
Meaning on the night of Al-Israa’ and Al-Mi`raj
“On the night on which I was taken on the Night Journey, I passed by Jibril in the Highest Assembly (of angels) and he was like a worn-out saddle-cloth.”
The worn-out saddle-cloth which is used beneath the saddle on the back of an animal (i.e. a camel)
“ Jibril was like a worn-out saddle-cloth for fear of Allah.”
fear of Allah!
Ibn Al-Qayyim said: “Among the angels are ones prostrating who haven’t lift their heads from prostration since Allah created them.”
“and among them are angels bowing who haven’t raised their heads since Allah created them until the Day of Judgment.”
And on the Day of Judgment they will say: “Glory be to You, we didn’t worship You as You deserved to be worshipped.”
Whenever Zain Al-`Aabidin Ali ibn Al-Hussain (may Allah have mercy on him) performed wudu’ (ablution) his face would change and turn yellow
and when they asked: “what happened to you?”
He replied: “Don’t you know Whom I am going to stand before?”
