Jesus (peace be upon him) is one of the most esteemed Prophets of God. He is one of the five messengers known as Ulu Al-`Azm (people of determination) in consideration of their virtues, their major da`wah (call to Islam) efforts and the hardships they have been involved in.

He came after Prophet Moses (peace be upon them) to guide the Children of Israel to the truthful way of God, the Almighty. Jesus (peace be upon him) was born miraculously, i.e. without a father, similar to Adam, the father of humanity, who has been created without a father or a mother. Almighty Allah has shown this in the Qur’an as He says,

Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allah is like that of Adam. He created Him from dust; then He said to him, “Be,” and he was. (Aal `Imran 3:59)

Prophet Jesus endured greatest hardships in his missionary activities to the extent that the Jews conspired to kill him but Almighty Allah saved Jesus from them. The same thing happened as well with Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) when the disbelievers of Quraish gathered at his door to kill him but Allah saved Muhammad from them.

Then, he migrated from Makkah to Madinah and established the Muslim state that became the greatest empire that dominated most of the world thereafter.

However, the case with Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) was quiet different. The disbelievers gathered to crucify and murder him but Allah safeguarded him and raised him alive to the heavens for a specific wisdom He Alone knows. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) informed us that Jesus (peace be upon him) is still alive and he will be returned down to the earth shortly before the end of the world to kill the Antichrist.

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “By the One in Whose Hand is my soul! Ibn Maryam shall soon descend among you, judging justly. He shall break the cross, kill the pig, remove the Jizyah, and wealth will be so bountiful that there will be none to accept it.” (At-Tirmidhi)
